Creating Great Memories at Upper Limits is Easy
It’s February, and that means love is in the air. Love or hate Valentine’s Day, one thing that’s true all year long is that taking a date rock climbing can make for a very memorable and fun time if done right.
The good thing about taking a date rock climbing is that you learn quickly about how that person reacts to stress, nerves, and being outside of their comfort zone; you find out how they respond to critiques and how much they can trust you. If the date is going well, there will be lots of positive encouragement and banner taking place.
Before you consider a climb at Upper Limits for your date, you should be considerate and do a bit research of their needs beforehand. We encourage anyone who is physically capable (and most people are), to stop by and check us out if they can! We cater to many ages, activity levels and athletic skills.
And if you’ve already spent time getting to know someone, you can usually gauge how adventurous they are, and what they will enjoy. But when meeting someone for the first time, be courteous.
Make sure there isn’t a physical condition or tremendous fear of heights that won’t allow them to have a good time here. Even those challenges can often be overcome in time, but a first date probably isn’t the best environment!
If you have some climbing expertise, you’ll also need some patience with first-timers. Especially if you have experience, taking a date rock climbing means they’ll probably look sloppy on the wall and may struggle with basic things you already know. But remind yourself, that isn’t the point anyway! Getting to know the person you’re with in a fun, interactive environment is the goal. And while no one likes a know-it-all, this could be your chance to impress him or her with a few tips.
Creating a memorable, enjoyable time means have encouragement, but no pressure on your partner to climb much past the point of what they want to scale either. Communication is a key part to any relationships, so watch and listen while the other is climbing.
TIP: If you see someone you’d like to meet while climbing solo at one of our St. Louis-area gyms, always be respectful of their time and space. Maybe they’d love to chat – but today just isn’t that time. It’s good to refrain from offering unsolicited advice also, which often comes across as annoying, or even condescending!
Taking a Date Rock Climbing – Apparel Tips
If you have never been to an indoor rock gym in St. Louis or elsewhere, clothes that fit snuggly with some stretch are best bet for attire. Many women opt to wear workout tights or similar, while men opt for running shorts or something else that is light and non-constricting. Regardless of choice, remember appropriate undergarments too. Contrary to many dates, now is probably the time to leave the jewelry at home also, for convenience and peace of mind.
Overall, taking a date rock climbing at one of our St. Louis area fitness centers can be a very rewarding experience for both of you, and a great source of conversation further on!
We hope you’ll stop by and see us in Chesterfield, Maryland Heights, or downtown St. Louis sometime soon, or visit us in Bloomington, IL. You can also call for more information, at (314) 991-2516.
